DIY - Holiday Treat Jars/Bags

When you give a gift you’ve created, it’s not cheap and it’s more common than you think, not to mention it gets a lot of really great compliments!    Besides, it’s something you created, you didn’t break the bank and they will have a smile on their face!

All of the items necessary to make this gift can be found at DOLLAR TREE, you heard me, ONE DOLLAR for everything you buy! The jars, dry ingredients and even the ribbon are all at Dollar Tree and you can spice this little project up anyway you like!

We found a ton of really cute ideas on Pinterest alone and some on a couple of “Healthy Eating” websites!

We’re doing a basic run-down on this yummy goodness gift so that you can have an idea of what you’d like to do with your own, or if you aren’t very creative and this seems easy enough to do for you, just follow the instructions below!

Besides, as far as gifts go, we wouldn’t complain if we received one filled with tasty treats! Everyone loves food!

Holiday Treat Jars

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Jar with a lid (preferably a screw on lid, if possible)
  • Medium Bowl for mixing the holiday mix in
  • M&Ms
  • Pretzels
  • Trail/Chex Mix
  • Ribbon (any size is fine for the style that you want!)
  • To/From Holiday Tag
  • OPTIONAL: Christmas/Holiday Fabric to go under lid

TIPS AND TRICKS:

***In order to measure the fabric for the jar, make note that the jar’s lid is usually about an inch thick, so when cutting your fabric cut it a little larger and use the lid to measure! See the example to the right***

     INSTRUCTIONS:

After washing and allowing the jar to completely dry, set it to the side.
Open the dry ingredients that you are using for the holiday jar and pour them into the medium bowl, begin mixing them - be careful not to crumble any pieces (by hand is preferred). (Note, to save space and make use of the full jar, if you have purchased pretzel sticks, break them in half)
Once the dry ingredients are mixed, take a serving spoon and scoop up some of the mix and pour it into the jar.
Fill the jar up to about the base of the rim where you would screw on the lid.
(At this point, if you decided to use fabric you would place the fabric over the opening of the jar, using two fingers hold down the opposing sides of the fabric for it to remain secure, and screw on the lid)
Screw on the lid to the jar.
Measure the ribbon that you’ve chosen for your jar by wrapping it around the jar two to three times – this will give you enough ribbon to create a bow!
If you opted out of using fabric, at this point, you will tie the ribbon of your choice around the neck of the jar, below the lid at the curve in the neck of the jar.
Fill out the holiday to/from label then apply to the jar.
(If you have a label that doesn’t have the sticker side to it, roll up a piece of tape to apply it to the top of the holiday jar.)

Holiday Treat Bags

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Medium bowl for mixing the holiday mix in
  • M&Ms
  • Pretzels
  • Trail/Chex Mix
  • Ribbon (any size is fine for the style that you want!)
  • To/From Holiday tag
  • Clear Holiday treat bags

     INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Open the dry ingredients that you are using for the holiday baggy and pour them into the medium bowl, begin mixing them - be careful not to crumble any pieces (by hand is preferred).
  2. Once the dry ingredients are mixed, take a serving spoon and scoop up some of the mix and pour it into the baggies.
  3. Fill the baggies up about half-way leaving room for you to twist the top.
  4. Take your ribbon and measure it out by about a foot – this should give you enough to wrap around the baggies to create a bow or curl ribbon.
  5. Tie the measured ribbon around the baggies.
  6. Fill out the holiday to/from label then apply to the holiday baggy.
